The Gift that Keeps on Giving

In 1925 Victor Radio company coined the phrase “The Gift that Keeps on Giving.” Kodak and other companies used the slogan also.

But, it was the Lord that thought of this concept first. I never thought about it until my husband and I were leading a weekly Bible study at Goodland children’s home in Hugo, Oklahoma. What are the Spiritual Gifts?” one of the boys asked after it was mentioned in one of our studies. My husband and I try to do Bible study plans daily on the YouVersion Bible app. I searched the app for plans on Spiritual Gifts and found one by Hope Media to share with the boys.

Spiritual gifts are mentioned in the book of Romans 12:6. The apostle Paul talks about gifts given according to the grace given us: Prophecy, Service, Teaching, Encouraging, Leading, Giving and Mercy. Now, are these for us to keep or to give to others? What good is prophecying if there is no one to listen or serving if there is no one to serve? Why would God give us gifts only to give them away? It’s because He knows the value of giving. He knows how rewarding it is to give. After all He gave his only son Jesus in order to give everlasting life to us. Luke 6:38 reads “Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure-pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.”

What does this verse mean? It is saying that no matter how you give, whether it is of your time or money, the Lord will give it back to you and then some. It is so rewarding to teach God’s word and see the children’s eyes opened. The joy the word brings them. “The Gift that keeps on Giving!
