I went to my eye doctor recently and while collaborating with the technician in deciding which frames to choose from she recanted a story I told her a year ago and said I should blog about it.
Our oldest son got a new job, and his training was in Salt Lake City, Utah. He invited my husband and I to bring his daughter and see one of the sites with him, Donut Falls.
Alltrails.com states.. This family-friendly hike is a short drive from Salt Lake City and boasts an incredibly unique waterfall. You will start your hike at the Donut Falls Trailhead. The waterfall gets its name from a donut-hole shape in the rock. The falls pours through the hole into a small pool in a cave before trickling down the rocks.
My husband and I are relatively fit, so we weren’t worried. We had brought our sons little girl with us as well since it was “family friendly.” By whose standards? We followed the trail on foot, enjoying the foliage and chipmunks, then we had to lower ourselves down a frail rope to the creek bed. Some people had to turn around and go back because it was not possible for them to hold their own weight or have someone below them to guide them down. My husband was first, our granddaughter and son next then myself. I was surprised that there wasn’t another way, believe me I would have found it.
We then went ahead up the creek/falls having to cris cross the frigid water, maneuvering unsteady rocks and climbing over downed trees. There was no clear trail on the sides of the waterway, and it was quite a hike. When we reached the end of the climb there was no way for our granddaughter to get to the top in order to see the “hole.” I was not even sure I could make it so I sat down on a downed tree to rest and eat a snack for energy replacement.
After we rested, we went back down the creek trying to
navigate an easier way, up and down rocks, in and out of the water, over and
under downed trees. We made it back to the start, went to the restroom and on
to the car. As I got in the back seat, I removed my sunglasses to see my phone
message, I reached in my pocket to get my regular glasses and they were
missing! They were brand new and costly because I have a special prescription. Where
could I have lost them, and should we even try to find them?
The day before we had gone on a hike up another mountain, Snowbird, that hike was “family friendly” We rode a gondola down, about a quarter of the way from the top my phone fell out of my pocket and plummeted to a rocky snow covered area we couldn’t for sure see. I prayed to God, I would find it and my precious husband never blinked an eye and said, “I will help you look.” He used the Find My app to give us a general idea and we found it, only the screen was barely scratched. I have kept it that way as a souvenir of answered prayer.
I thought “well it worked yesterday,” so I prayed again. Dear Lord, help me find my glasses. My husband again without a negative remark or complaint went with me to look. We scoured every inch we thought I had trapsed. All the way to the top/end of the climb and I sat down again on the log to rest and cry. I looked over the water and within an arms reach were my glasses, under the water with only the arms sticking out waving in the air with the current. It was like “here I am!” I jumped up and shouted, “I found them” and did a victory dance. All the people were looking at me strangely, but my husband just smiled and helped me back down the trail to the car.
There is a song that comes to mind “His eye is on the sparrow” and the following verse says “and I know He watches me.”
