Texas Hold Em

Alexa play the number one country music song Texas Hold Em by Beyonce”.

My Husband and I’s oldest son gave us an Alexa, it is a device that can play music and complete many other helpful tasks with an oral command. Alexa started playing the song along with the video.

What the …..?  Who are you calling a “B” and what in the world are you wearing? Is your mother still your stylist? This Rhinestone Cowgirl is not impressed. In fact I am even more than upset as to where the country music genre has taken itself. Are we just supposed to sit back and watch, turn to a different station or do something!

“Single Ladies”, married ladies, where is our self-respect and flat out class anymore. I told my 86 year old mother-in-law “I think you are the last of the classy women.” I have four granddaughters and I would like to get back to where women are respected because they deserve to be respected by their actions and well thought out words.

I used to love Country Music until I started really listening to the words. I was singing thoughtlessly in the vehicle with our young sons in the back seat when I realized the words were not what I wanted planted in their heads. I remember belting out “Our D. I. V. O. R. C. E. became final today! Wait, NO!

Was I deaf all those years prior?

The words to David Allen Cole’s song, You Never Call Me By My Name read, “A perfect country and western song needs to include words about Momma, trains, trucks, going to prison and getting drunk”. Currently, the words have far outreached those boundaries and have gone straight into the pop genres foul mouth and sexual realm.

Country and Western Music, Western has been dropped from the
title, did it start out like this?  Brittanica
states; Ultimately, country music’s roots lie in the ballads, folk songs, and
popular songs of the English, Scots, and Irish settlers of the Appalachians and
other parts of the South. In the early 1920s the traditional string-band music
of the Southern Mountain regions began to be commercially recorded, with
Fiddlin’ John Carson garnering the genre’s first hit record in 1923. The vigor
and realism of the rural songs, many lyrics of which were rather impersonal
narratives of tragedies pointing to a stern Calvinist moral, stood in marked
contrast to the often-mawkish sentimentality of much of the popular music of
the day.

So, I guess it did. I just remember Country crooners crossing over to near gospel music. Garth Brooks, “Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers.” Tanya Tuckers “Delta Dawn” to name a few. Thankfully, Carrie Underwood is bringing those and others to light on her “Savior” Sirius station.

I just ask that the women of influence please try to think
about the little girls, daughters, mothers and grandmothers when they portray
women in the lime light because in the end you could be causing great harm to
us all.

Tattoo

Kevin, my husband, has a few tattoos. He has my name, Rochelle Diane, on the inside of his right bicep and the name Jesus on his chest over his heart. He has wanted me to go with him to get a tattoo as well but I have refused and would quote the Bible verse in Leviticus which states “Do not tattoo thyself as the heathen do” omitting the rest of the verse which says, “to honor the dead.” The Bible says in Deuteronomy 4:2 “You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.” Why do you think God does not want us to honor the dead this way? I believe He is a loving God and does not want us to have a daily reminder of such a painful event. I do believe he wants us to remember the loved one but not suffer so in the remembering. Our son, Austin, justifies his tattoos by quoting “Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands;” Isaiah 49:16. Our music minister quotes “and on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.” Revelation 19:16

Approximately a year after my encounter with the Lord, I flippantly told my husband that what the Lord had said to me would be something I would consider getting tattooed on my forearm. With a grin on his face he said “get in the truck” I knew that was coming, Kevin had read the book I AM N by the Voice of the Martyrs and in one of the stories the Muslim group ISIS had put the Nazarene symbol in red above the doors of the Christians homes to notify them to renounce Christianity, move or be killed. Kevin was raised in the Nazarene faith, a follower of Jesus Christ from Nazareth.

I do love the artistry of tattoos. Another reason I had not gotten a tattoo in the past was because I could not decide on what to get, I was afraid that overtime I might regret what I got. This time I knew what I wanted, and I knew I would not regret it. I never wanted to forget what Jesus said. I have noticed how the mind does strange things especially when you get older, I’ve seen wives forget their husband’s names and that they were married 50 years. I just hope I do not mistake the tattoo for spiders on my arm if I cannot see well.

We went to Paris, Texas and sought out a tattoo artist other than the one Kevin had been to before. I was very uncomfortable there. We walked into Alpha Ink Tattoo Parlor and met the only artist in the shop that night. Christian music was playing on the televison which was an unexpected and welcomed surprise. We filled out the paperwork and he took copies of our drivers licenses. Tack started on Kevin and listened intently to Kevin’s story as he tattooed the Nazarene symbol on his shoulder. After he finished with Kevin, he started on mine and proceeded to tell his story. Tack had lived a rough life and was trying to live straight. He was going to an intense Bible study and he was putting a nondenominational worship center in Paris, Texas. A place where anyone of the Christian faith could stand up to the mic and preach, pray or sing. He had a great story of God’s faithfulness and protection. As he finished, he said “that’s a cool tattoo!” Thanks, I said, I designed it myself. I told him I had a life changing incident and handed him a two-page letter describing it. He said thanks and that he would read it.

The next day I had to go to the orthopedist because I had pulled something in the back of my leg and it was causing me great pain. When I got there they requested I show my ID. I went to look for it in my purse and realized that I had left it at the tattoo parlor. The Tattoo parlor wasn’t open yet because they don’t open until afternoon. I provided my concealed carry license which they questioned the ability to use until I told them about the background check needed to acquire one. After my appointment I ran a few errands, ate lunch and then went to the tattoo parlor to get my license. Tack was there working on someone and immediately stopped when he saw me. He said he knew why I was there and went and got my license. As he came toward me he said “I have to tell you something. I couldn’t sleep last night so I went into the kitchen, got myself a glass of milk and sat down to read your story. I balled like a baby. It is such a good story. My mother and her husband had moved in with me because they had fallen on hard times. She must have heard me and came downstairs. She entered the kitchen and asked what was wrong, I pushed the papers toward her and told her she had to read them. She balled too and then her husband came in the room. He asked what was wrong and my Mom pushed the papers toward him. He in turn cried as well.” Tack then leaned in and asked me “Can I print more copies and share them?” I said “Yes, you can.” He said “Thank you” and then I went home fulfilled.

I have kept up with Tack over the years on Facebook. He seems to have been tormented at times and I have tried to encourage him. I told him to “Tack Life” instead of so much death but he said sadly he couldn’t make any money doing that. Then I recently saw where he had posted a picture of himself kneeling down and praying with a child that was standing in front of him. Tack was wearing a t-shirt that had the Nazarene symbol on it and the website from I Am N, The Voice of the Martyrs. He also stated he was closing his shop, embracing his real name, Herman, and going into the ministry.

Thank you Lord Jesus for allowing me to see You working in others lives. Amen.

The Gift that Keeps on Giving

In 1925 Victor Radio company coined the phrase “The Gift that Keeps on Giving.” Kodak and other companies used the slogan also.

But, it was the Lord that thought of this concept first. I never thought about it until my husband and I were leading a weekly Bible study at Goodland children’s home in Hugo, Oklahoma. What are the Spiritual Gifts?” one of the boys asked after it was mentioned in one of our studies. My husband and I try to do Bible study plans daily on the YouVersion Bible app. I searched the app for plans on Spiritual Gifts and found one by Hope Media to share with the boys.

Spiritual gifts are mentioned in the book of Romans 12:6. The apostle Paul talks about gifts given according to the grace given us: Prophecy, Service, Teaching, Encouraging, Leading, Giving and Mercy. Now, are these for us to keep or to give to others? What good is prophecying if there is no one to listen or serving if there is no one to serve? Why would God give us gifts only to give them away? It’s because He knows the value of giving. He knows how rewarding it is to give. After all He gave his only son Jesus in order to give everlasting life to us. Luke 6:38 reads “Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure-pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.”

What does this verse mean? It is saying that no matter how you give, whether it is of your time or money, the Lord will give it back to you and then some. It is so rewarding to teach God’s word and see the children’s eyes opened. The joy the word brings them. “The Gift that keeps on Giving!

Bleep

Where’s the bleep? Bad words, foul language used to get bleeped out!

Excuse me, what did you say? That’s what my mother or teacher would say if I said a foul word. Followed by watch your mouth.

Clark Gable spoke the first foul word heard in cinema in the movie Gone With the Wind. It has sent a ripple effect through the airwaves since.

Should it be a big deal anymore? Big deal? God spoke the universe into existence with the words “Let there be light.” He spoke the animals and creeping things into existence with words. Yes, words are a Big deal.

I used to get an “N” (needs improvement) on my report card every semester for talking too much. Mind you my father was an air traffic controller and talking was his job. He didn’t stop there and I came by it naturally.

Now talking is used as an income more than ever. People are elevated through Ted talks and people are canceled for a Facebook post.

In the news yesterday they were talking about a commentator who was everywhere, speaking here and there. They played a snippet of him speaking and the first word out of his mouth was Damn. Damn is a curse word, it’s called curse word because it curses whatever you spoke it over.

I have heard such an uptick in foul language it’s sickening to me. (The Bible says sin should be sickening to the Christian). Oh I have used curse words in the past, it was heard often in my father’s language so I picked it up. I wish I had gotten the example from my mother who never spoke one. It is like an addiction, once you start it’s hard to stop. They creep in when you least expect it. Say you hit your finger with a hammer? Why is that?

What does the Bible say about foul language?

“Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭29‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

“and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭4‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

“But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭8‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

“But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath; but your yes is to be yes, and your no, no, so that you may not fall under judgment.”
‭‭James‬ ‭5‬:‭12‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

And one of the Big Ten…

““You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.”
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭20‬:‭7‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

Yes, words do matter! Our manual “The Bible” says so.

New Year’s Eve at the Casino

After working all day, my husband and I went out to dinner at a nice Italian restaurant and then we went to the grocery store. After we got home and put up our purchases. We thought that we wanted to do something fun and be amongst people. We don’t get invited to parties because we don’t drink alcohol or so I have been told. But, we wanted to do something to celebrate the coming of the new year 2026.

Earlier in the day I had seen on Facebook that the radio station was doing a live show at the casino. So I mentioned to my husband that we go. As we were driving there my husband sneezed and commented. “Did you put on perfume?” He has never been effected by that before so I just answered “yes.” I do admit that the perfume I used is a little strong, A woman had come to Bible study with it on and I thought it smelled good. Although it did fill the room, I bought some. As we walked into the casino my husband said “Ugh, that smell.” The smell is like cigarette smoke, beer and bad body odor all combined. We sell insurance and casino employees who have come in to pay their bill, during the transaction they have mentioned people will wear diapers to sit at a machine hours upon hours hoping the machine will pay out. I told my husband “I guess it doesn’t matter that I tried to cover up the stale of the day on me, you surely can’t smell it in here.” The people look clean on the outside but upon looking at them closely there is something a lot deeper going on, on the inside.

I saw people walking around in circles, going from the pop machine to the restroom to the lighted casino machines. Not joyous partying like you see in the commercials. In the movie “A bugs life” one bug says to the other “Don’t go into the light!” The other replies “I can’t help myself!” The light people are searching for is Jesus.

“Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.””
‭‭John‬ ‭8‬:‭12‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

On our way to the bar to listen to the live show and get some dessert. We were quickly ushered to a table which I was surprised there was one available. But, I have found God gives us favor no matter where we go. I saw many lonely souls staring blankly at the tv screens that had football games on them. We didn’t stay but an hour, as we left I saw many races. Black, white, Native American, Hispanic and Asian. All doing basically the same thing in the same area. Small mixed groups talking to each other, no hatred for the other races seen. A unity that is almost holy but for the wrong reasons.

I have been in churches that because I am white I have felt unwelcome and I have been in predominately white churches with a sprinkle of other races that they too feel unwelcome. There is a world wide movement called The Gathering, a time for Christians from around the world to pray. The pictures of those gatherings are beautiful! A melting pot of people praying for all the people of the world. I am sure this greatly pleases the Lord.

How do we reach the lost in an area like the casino? Do we stand outside and hand out Christian tracks? We would probably be ushered off of the grounds. Do we walk in and shout “Repent, for the Lord is coming!” Again we would be escorted out. These people are our neighbors and co-workers. They are hungry for companionship. We need to ask them to come to church with us on a daily basis. “As we go” as the Holy Bible says.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭28‬:‭19‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

And our churches need to be welcoming to the hurting. Many of these people are as the song says “Looking for love in all the wrong places”

2026 is the year of the “Fire Horse” If you know me you know horses are in my blood. Each year our church picks a word for us to focus on. I have seen other statements on Facebook of people who do the same thing. I think I will pick “FIRE” as my word this year. There is a song that says, speaking to God, “start a fire in me!”

We probably won’t go to the casino for a New Year’s celebration again. We didn’t see any celebratory actions there besides hats and horns. I mentioned to a former pastor that the church should have something for people to do to celebrate the new year. He thought that was an interesting idea. We went to the casino because it was close to our home. I think we will drive a little farther to a church in Finley, Oklahoma or the cowboy church in Clarksville, Texas (many of the cars in the parking lot of the casino were from Texas) that does celebrate the bringing in of the new year.

We wanted to go out and have some “fun” instead of staying home and watching it happen on tv but the Bible has this interesting statement.

“and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life and attend to your own business and work with your hands, just as we commanded you,”
‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭4‬:‭11‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

Zelensky’s Attire

President Volodymyr Zelensky’s attire, when he visited the White House, was in question the minute he stepped out of the limousine. President Donald Trump said “you dressed up” to Volodymyr. Volodymyr looked down at his clothes and said “yes.” He was dressed all in black, a reporter said he looked like he was wearing his pajamas. I normally see him in news reports wearing camouflage. I assumed it was because he was making a statement that he was at war, meaning him and his country. Later a news reporter asked him if he owned a suit. Volodymyr looking obviously disturbed said “when the war is over then I will wear the costume.”

Costume? Isn’t it interesting how important what we put on can make such a significant event like a meeting with the President of the United States be minimized by what we wear?

I have worn western clothes for as long as I can remember. Being from Texas and living most of my life in Oklahoma you would think that it is most tolerated here. But it’s not. I can’t tell you the sneers I have seen over the years. My mother in law for one until I told her my cowgirl boots cost more than her shoes. She went shopping for a gift for me at the western store and was surprised at the cost of the clothes as well.

I was in a 5K with a friend and she was noticing what other runners were wearing. Some of the attire was for efficiency but for the most part it was by choice, comfortability or even style you might say. She spoke up and said “why is it that in a certain religion, the husband wears normal clothes and the wife wears old timey clothes? I said “I don’t know, encouraging submission on the wife’s side maybe?”

All clothing is fashion, at some time or another someone designed it, someone liked it and chose to wear it, others saw it and followed suit. I think if it were up to God, we would all still be naked. We came into this world naked! I am thankful for clothes especially in the winter time but to not know we need them, that would be freedom!

Genesis 3:10-11

“He (Adam) answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” And he (God) said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?””
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3‬:‭10‬-‭11‬ ‭NIV‬‬

By the way God was the first designer, even though Adam and Eve were disobedient God provided for them.

Genesis 3:21

“The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3‬:‭21‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Fight Fair

In the 2024 Olympics we have seen competitors like we have never seen before.

Imane Khelif, Algerian boxer, won by default because her opponent had not been hit that hard before and was concerned for her health. Angela Carina collapsed in a heap of tears on the floor. All those years of hard work lost in an unfair fight. Imane failed a biological test by having XY chromosomes, male chromosomes in her.

Speaking from experience I know how Angela Carina felt. I was a gymnast since I was five years old. I have been stronger than most girls my age and a few boys. The difference is the boys bowed out in a fight. A boy was taunting me from the back of the school bus, saying sexual things to me. I got out of my seat and walked to the back of the bus. He stood up, I punched him in the mouth busting his lip and landing him back in his seat. He had a scar on his lip left to prove it. But he didn’t fight back. I arm wrestled my boyfriend in 6th grade and beat him but lost him as even a friend. Girls and boys can be equal in strength until puberty. Another boyfriend was taunting me in middle school, and I got mad. He said “come on, hit me” pointing to his shoulder and as I went to hit him, he moved, and I caught his jaw almost knocking him out. But he never hit back. Boys used to be taught from a very early age never hit a girl!

I got in a fight in middle school with a girl that was taunting me, you can only take so much. She followed me as I walked to piano lessons and when I turned around and put my books down she hit me in my shoulder, I hit her back over and over until my piano teacher broke us up. She came to school the next day wearing sunglasses because she had two black eyes. My friends would have me fight their battles which many times came to nothing. Just a bunch of talk. When my husband and I were dating he had to break up a fight I was in with a girl over him. Funny huh, he is worth fighting for!

I say all of this because later on when my sons were young, we went with a couple of their “girlfriends” to play in the snow. One of their mothers was flirting with my husband. I became angry and took her down and pushed her face in the snow. A man that was with us who was close to my size became angry and got ahold of me and pushed my face in the snow. I was shocked, I thought he was a wimp and that I would be able to take him if need be. He proved me wrong! The girls were a fair fight being fully girls but men have a hidden strength.

If the Olympic committee won’t even let a competitor take a Sudafed, they shouldn’t let someone have an unfare advantage.

“Differing weights and differing measures, both of them are abominable to the Lord.”

PK

Why is it that Pastors Kids so often stray away from what they were taught and exposed to? Some say it is the Fishbowl Syndrome, being under constant watch. The casual criticism of well wishers feeling like someone tapping on the glass. Are the children a bullseye target for Satan to attack so that the unbelievers say See, See!

I struggled with the title of this blog. Hawk Tuah Girl was my first pick but that would be too obvious. My first sight of the words Hawk Tuah was on a T-shirt I saw on the internet.

We live in Indian territory, Choctaw Nation to be specific and the language pops up on a sign or a t-shirt on occasion. I thought maybe that’s where it came from and started investigating the meaning.

Spitting? Well that makes sense, I have seen a contest or two in the past measuring distance as to how far someone can spit. Gross as that is the meaning of the phrase Hawk Tuah is worse. A former classmate of mine made a comment on Facebook about how crude the talk was. A man replied to her comment “well we know now what you won’t do, lol!” I felt really bad for her and angry. If you haven’t caught on by now Hawk Tuah is about sodomy. Hello, the act of sodomy caused God to destroy two whole communities, Sodom and Gomorrah. Hence where the word Sodomy was derived from.

“And the Lord said, “The outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is indeed great, and their sin is exceedingly grave.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭18‬:‭20‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

Per Cornell Law School’s website “Traditionally, sodomy has been referred to as a “crime against nature” by various courts and statutes.”

A girl wearing a Hawk Tuah t-shirt is setting herself up for an attack. Sodomy is a degrading and violent act. You are at the mercy of your partner because you are in a very vulnerable position. The penis has a purpose and that’s to populate. It’s not a toy!

“As for you, be fruitful and multiply; Populate the earth abundantly and multiply in it.””
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭9‬:‭7‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

Since we have degraded it (the penis) we have had more attacks on women, girls and boys than ever before. Human trafficking is an all time high. I am not a prude, you cannot be a prude if you read the Bible, been married, had children and lived in this sinful world for 61 years. And the illnesses, people are dying!

“Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so when he went in to his brother’s wife, he wasted his seed on the ground in order not to give offspring to his brother.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭38‬:‭9‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

We are actually in dire straights, humanity is seriously in danger of becoming extinct.

The Hawk Tuah Girl is a pastors daughter. Her interview has caused great heartache for her family. If only PK kids would look at being a PK as a gift and privilege from God! Being thankful for the protection provided by the strictness of their parents. Sharing the lessons taught by their parents and church members to lead the lost to Jesus. They need to look at things differently realizing that those that make fun of them are jealous of them.

Pastor Clint Archer of Christ Fellowship Baptist in Mobile, Alabama said in an article he wrote for The Cripplegate…We are all expected to make wise decisions with our time and money and parenting. All Christians should be living as examples of God’s grace. And we should never care what people think more than we value what our Lord thinks of our decisions.
So the fishbowl is a helpful reminder of the standard we are aiming for. It’s an accountability aid. It’s a privilege to lead by example. And yes, it can get wearisome. But the benefits of personal holiness, frugal stewardship, and careful decision making far outweighs the discomfort of being on stage seemingly 24/7.

“Dead flies make a perfumer’s oil stink, so a little foolishness is weightier than wisdom and honor.”
‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭10‬:‭1‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

Dear Lord forgive us and heal our land!

The Day the Music Died

In Don McLean’s 1971 song American Pie the unforgettable words are “the day the music is died.”

For 30 years people from all over the world would come to Hugo America for the Bluegrass festival. Founder Bill Grant was a Bluegrass Music mogul. He was known for his inimitable singing style, unique mandolin playing, and skill as a songwriter says Sandra Brennan of All Music. She goes on to say Bill Grant and his partner Delia Bell were among the best male-female duets in bluegrass music.

Grant was recognized as “Ambassador of Bluegrass Music” by three Oklahoma governors, states Wikipedia. Delia Bell was born in Texas and raised in Oklahoma. Grant was a friend of her husband’s and in 1959 they teamed up to sing at local events and on the Little Dixie Hayride show at radio station KIHN Hugo. They also played once a month on a TV station in Ada, Oklahoma.

In 1969, Grant and Bell attended Bill Monroe’s Bean Blossom Festival before forming the Kiamichi Mountain Boys with the Bonham Family. Grant founded the Kiamichi label in 1971 and during the ’70s they recorded a number of albums. Bell cut a solo country record in 1978; the next year, she and Grant toured Great Britain and recorded a country album there. The Kiamichi Boys disbanded in 1980 because the Bonhams refused to travel, while Bell and Grant wanted to work the national festival circuit. That same year, Emmylou Harris cut one of Bell’s songs, “Roses in the Snow; ” Harris claimed that Bell was her very favorite singer and helped her get a contract with Warner Bros. As the decade wore on, Bell and Grant recorded a pair of albums for Rebel and three for Rounder before switching to the Old Homestead label.

Bill may have traveled the world but he would always return to Hugo, Oklahoma. In late summer his outdoor Blue Grass festival at Hugo’s Salt Creek would draw thousands of people for the five day event. Sunday’s was Gospel day which everyone looked forward to. It was touted the oldest festival of it’s kind west of the Mississippi.

My husband and I had the great priviledge of meeting Mr. Grant at one of those festivals and that’s all it took. He remembered us both from then on whether he was the entertainment for a Rotary banquet or the indoor Early Bird Bluegrass festival every spring. If you met him once he considered you his friend and he never forgot your name.

As the times changed and Bluegrass music dwindled, visitors came to Hugo less and less. Bill couldn’t afford the taxes on Salt Creek and it went up for sale. Shortly thereafter his first wife passed and he stopped traveling. We thought he was probably done singing as well when he fell in love and started it all up again.

His new wife Barbara was his biggest fan. She was quite the salesperson! She peddled his songs to whomever she came in contact with. And she accompanied him on all his gigs, they were inseparable. Now Bill was no spring chicken when they met but she brought the life back into him. We were amazed what he could still do but after several years and as time would have it his life drew to an end.

After a few weeks Barbara, Bill’s wife came in my husband and I’s insurance office to do business, she was understandably distraught. I helped her with her affairs and gave her a copy of my book, Rhinestone Cowgirl. I told her that people told me it encouraged them after a loss. She thanked me and left.

The next day she came in my office and sat down in the chair. She took a minute to speak and then with tear filled eyes said “I have peace!” She said that Bill had been sick for a while and caring for him became a full time job. In his last days he would fade in and out and say he just wanted to ride a horse again. When he passed there was so much to do and she showed me a picture of his beautiful headstone. She said she really hadn’t had time to think about anything for herself. She said she asked God where Bill was before she had come in my office the first time. She said she hadn’t been able to sleep or even shed a tear. That night she went to bed and read my book. She said she cried uncontrollably and fell fast asleep. She knows Bill is riding horses in Heaven now.

Revelation 19:14

“And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses.”

The Carpenter’s Toolbox

Kevin and my father built our first house. From the foundation, to the roof and everything in between. It was amazing all the tools they needed and used. Their toolboxes spanned the back of their trucks just to hold most of them. It took years to finish the house but in the end the completed project was a hand crafted beautiful home.

In the Bible, the word carpenter is mentioned 11 times. In Isaiah 28:16 the Sovereign Lord mentioned carpenter references. “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation, the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic.” And in the book of Mark 6:3 it says Jesus was a carpenter. Some say he was a stone mason. Jesus does say in Matthew 16:18 “and on this rock I will build my church (speaking of the disciple Peter) another carpenter reference.

My husband and I together have raised three sons. We did our best with our limited knowledge of raising children. We took them to church, played sports, they each learned an instrument and are all Eagle Scouts. We sent them through a Christian home school program. People would often say “your boys are so well rounded!” It does take a village though, grandparents, coaches, teachers and ministers have all played a part. Thankfully the guys are all saved, gainfully employed and have families of their own.

They weren’t always perfect and they tried their own way. I wondered at times why did they throw out the tool box we gave them? But, overtime I have realized it’s only been at the back of the closet waiting for them to bring it out again.

Proverbs 22:6 NIV Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

The Holy Bible is our toolbox, pull it out of the closet, read it, follow it and you will have the tools to navigate and have an abundant life.

Kids say the darnedest things

Our granddaughter goes to preschool at a Jewish synagogue. It is highly rated. I was somewhat concerned but I thought well if they teach the Torah that’s a great foundational start. I voiced my concern to her parents and they said they didn’t teach against Jesus. I said but the parents might and the children say what their parents say.

I have a Jewish friend that said she would never follow someone who caused such a devision. I view Jesus as someone who wanted to bring unity with all people.

Four year olds are coming into voicing their new found emotions and words. I hate naps, I hate green peas, I don’t want to go to bed, I hate you! But I had never heard a child say…

Claire has beautiful friendships with a few of the children at the school. I have been amazed at how compassionate and loving she is with and about them.

Claire is very intelligent, her father is in finance, her mother is a lawyer. She likes to talk and when it comes to prayer time before we eat, she refuses to be quiet and even makes loud noises to get us to stop. One day when I finished the prayer “in Jesus name” she said “I hate Jesus!” I gasped and said “oh, He is my friend!” “He is so kind!” She hung her head and said “oh, I didn’t know.”

Her parents have since told her about Jesus and now she will sweetly bow her head and close her eyes. The other day she said “look Mimi, I made a cross in my mashed potatoes!”

In the Bible, Jesus says…

”Seeing their faith, He said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven you.”“

Joseph M. Scriven wrote this poem in 1855 to comfort his mother while he was living in Ireland and she in Canada. In 1868 it was put to music.

What a friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!

O what peace we often forfeit
O what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged
Take it to the Lord in prayer

Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness
Take it to the Lord in prayer
